I have written over 30 diaries since I was thirteen. Recently these diaries have formed an experimental performance entitled Work in Progress. This work reveals a human vulnerability as I read sections from the diaries and use my body with the books to create universal metaphors.
A performance accompanying storytelling in collaboration with Saffron McCaughna. This is an Inuit story about life and death cycles with powerful images of the sea’s destructive forces and the warm creation of an enduring love. Through movement and video projection we brought this archetypal tale to life.
An interactive street parade of sea/circus creatures. My character, Hermetta Harmonious the Hermit Crab, is a shy belly-dancer, peering out from her shell made from beach detritus. She eventually emerges, displaying herself in a proud sexy dance or mating ritual. Directed by Maria Lloyd.
Experimentation is integral to my work, and Experimental Spaces 2003 gave me the opportunity to publicly play with site specific performance ideas. I responded to the museum’s wildlife room of stuffed birds and animals. I also adapted a physical theatre game inviting visitors to pick words and perform actions for the camera.
